1. Who We Are

SeaCal is developed and published by Gavin Kerr, Ireland. For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Irish Data Protection Acts 1988–2018, Gavin Kerr is the data controller for any personal data processed in connection with this application.

For users in the United Kingdom, this policy also applies under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) as retained and amended by the Data Protection Act 2018. The UK GDPR mirrors the EU GDPR in structure and rights; all obligations and protections described in this policy apply equally to UK residents.

2. Data That Never Leaves Your Device

All of the following is stored exclusively using your device's local storage. It is never transmitted to our servers, third parties, or any cloud service:

When you use the built-in backup feature, an export file is created on your device and shared only to destinations you explicitly select (e-mail, iCloud, Google Drive, etc.). We never receive or have access to a copy of your backup.

3. Data We Do Collect

3a. Anonymous Usage Analytics — Google Firebase Analytics

We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used in aggregate so we can improve it. The data collected is anonymous and non-identifiable; it includes:

AdMob does not receive any of the maritime data you enter into SeaCal. Google's advertising privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.

How to opt out of personalised ads:

3c. App Configuration Check

Once every seven days the app makes a brief outbound HTTPS request to fetch a small configuration file hosted on GitHub Pages. This request contains no personal data — it carries no cookies, user identifiers, or content from your records. It is used only to confirm the app is up to date and whether certain features (such as ads) are enabled.
